AI website audits and rebuilds: how I actually run them

This is not a services page and I am not pitching for the work. It is an account of one of the jobs I give easy.one most often: taking a website apart, working out why it underperforms, and in most cases rebuilding it properly rather than patching it.

Why audits stall

Most audits die because nobody reads them

The traditional website audit is a 60 page PDF that lists two hundred findings without ranking them, so the owner reads four pages, feels vaguely guilty and files it. The collection was never the hard part. Sorting the findings into the handful that change enquiries, and then doing the work, is where it falls apart.

Crawlability, indexation, redirect chains, broken links, page weight, Core Web Vitals, mobile rendering and structured data errors: the things a machine finds faster and more completely than a person will.

Content

Which page targets which query, where two pages compete for the same one, which pages are too thin to rank and which pages a buyer expects to find but cannot.

Conversion

Whether the page says what is sold, who it is for and what happens next, and how many steps sit between an interested visitor and an actual enquiry.

The run

What the process looks like from my desk

Each stage is handled by a different agent, and the output of one becomes the input of the next. My job is the brief at the start and the judgement in the middle, not the typing.

  1. Crawl and collect

    Every page, its title, description, headings, internal links, schema and load behaviour, gathered into one working set rather than five browser tabs and a spreadsheet.

  2. Compare against intent

    Each page is checked against the query it should serve and the buyer it should convince. This is where most sites turn out to be describing themselves rather than answering anything.

  3. Rank by consequence

    Findings are sorted by likely effect on enquiries, not by severity label. A missing phone number on the contact page beats forty alt tags, every time.

  4. Fix or rebuild

    Small sites are usually quicker to rebuild than to repair. Where the structure is sound, the fixes are applied page by page instead.

  5. Recheck before handover

    The rebuilt pages go back through the same checks, because a rebuild introduces its own faults and nobody should take my word for that.

The part people get wrong: an audit is only worth what gets changed afterwards. I run the audit and the rebuild through the same workspace so the findings and the fixes stay attached to each other, rather than the report becoming an artefact nobody acts on.

Rebuilds and new builds

When the answer is a website rebuild

Below a certain size, a website rebuild is cheaper than repairing what is already there. A five page brochure site carrying a decade of accumulated plugins, mixed templates and half-finished redesigns takes longer to untangle than to replace, and the rebuild is faster and easier to maintain afterwards. Lead generation sites in particular are usually quicker to rebuild from scratch than to patch, because the whole point is a clean path to one action.

Static HTML, CSS and JavaScript with no build step, which deploys anywhere and does not rot the moment a plugin stops being maintained.

Lead generation sites

My lead generation sites are built backwards from the enquiry: one clear action per page, proof near the ask, and no navigation inviting people to wander off before they get there. The follow-up workflow behind them.

Genuine comparison content with disclosure where it belongs. This site is one of them, so you can judge the output rather than take a claim on trust.

Schema, done properly

Structured data written to match what is visible on the page, not bolted on to game a rich result. More on that here.

Drafted from what the business actually does, then edited by me. Unedited AI copy reads like unedited AI copy and buyers notice.

Deploy and hand over

Static output goes to any host: the owner keeps the files and is not tied to me, the platform or a proprietary page builder.

How long does a website rebuild take with AI help?

For a small brochure or lead generation site, a website rebuild takes days rather than weeks, because drafting, structure, schema and copy run in parallel instead of queuing. The limiting factor is rarely the tool: it is how quickly decisions get made about positioning, proof and what the site is for.

Can AI rebuild a website without a developer?

For a static marketing or lead generation site, yes: the output is ordinary HTML, CSS and JavaScript that deploys anywhere, and I build and deploy these myself through easy.one without bringing in a developer. AI shortens the work rather than removing the judgement about what should be built.

Is an AI audit as good as a human one?

Faster and more thorough at collection, weaker at judgement. Machines list every broken link and duplicate title without tiring. Deciding which three findings out of two hundred will change revenue is still a human call, which is why I read every audit before it goes anywhere.
