AI SEO, content and schema: the method I actually use

Search work is the job I hand over most, because it is largely collection, comparison and drafting: exactly what coordinated agents are good at. Here is how I run SEO optimisation, content writing, full schema coding and competitor reporting, and where I still do the work myself.

Content writing

Drafting is the easy half

A model will produce a competent thousand words on almost anything, and that is precisely the problem: competent, unspecific writing is what everybody else is publishing too. The value sits in what you put into the brief and what you cut from the draft.

  1. Decide what the page is for

One page, one question, one reader. Pages that try to serve three queries usually serve none of them and end up competing with each other.

  2. Gather the specifics first

Figures, examples, constraints, prices, objections. A draft written from real detail is worth editing; a draft written from nothing is worth deleting.

  3. Draft with the brand voice in memory

Tone, banned phrases and spelling conventions live in the workspace, so page twelve does not suddenly read like a different company.

  4. Edit hard

My pass removes the padding, adds the opinions and takes out anything I cannot stand behind. This is the stage nobody can outsource.

The rule I keep: never publish a claim the draft cannot source. AI writing invents plausible statistics with total confidence, and one invented figure costs more credibility than ten good pages earn.

Writing to be quotable, not to be guaranteed

Search increasingly answers the question on the results page and cites a handful of sources. You cannot buy your way into that and you cannot guarantee inclusion, whatever anyone claims. What you can do is make a page trivially easy to extract a correct answer from. That is a method, not a promise.

01

Answer first

The direct answer goes in the first two sentences under a heading phrased the way people ask the question, not after four paragraphs of throat-clearing.

02

Be specific and attributable

Figures with a source, dates, named constraints. Vague copy is unquotable, because there is nothing in it worth lifting.

03

Cost and detail up front

Where price or specification is the question, put it on the page. Hiding it behind an enquiry form removes you from the answer entirely.

04

Structured data that matches

FAQPage, LocalBusiness, Product and Article markup describing what the page visibly says. Markup that describes something else is a breach, not an edge.

05

One question per block

Self-contained sections that make sense lifted out of context, because that is exactly how they will be used.

06

Keep it current

Stale prices and dead facts are worse than no facts. Scheduled checks catch the pages that quietly went out of date.

Schema markup

Full schema coding, generated from the page itself

Structured data is tedious, rule-bound and easy to get subtly wrong, which makes it ideal work to hand over. The important discipline is that the markup is generated from the finished page rather than written in parallel with it, so the two cannot drift apart.

What gets written

Organization and WebPage as the base, then FAQPage, Article, Product, Service or LocalBusiness depending on what the page genuinely is. Every field traceable to visible content.

What does not get written

Review or AggregateRating markup for your own business on your own site. Self-serving aggregate ratings breach the guidelines, and the short-term rich result is not worth the manual action.

Validation as a step

Every block is parsed and checked before publication. Invalid JSON-LD is silently ignored by search engines, so a broken block looks exactly like no block at all.

Applied at site scale

Doing this by hand across forty pages is why it usually never happens. As a workflow it runs across the whole site in one pass. How I build those workflows.

Competitor analysis

Reporting that arrives without being asked

Competitor research done once is a snapshot, and a snapshot tells you very little. Run on a schedule it becomes a signal: what changed, when, and whether it matters. This is the sort of work that never gets done manually because it is dull and never urgent.

Positioning changes

How competitors describe themselves, who they say they serve, and when that quietly shifts.

Published pricing

What is on their pages, tracked over time, so a price move is something I notice in a week rather than a year.

Content gaps

Questions they answer that I do not, which is a more useful content plan than any keyword tool's export.

Structured comparison

Findings in the same shape each time, so successive reports can be read against each other rather than as fresh documents.

Delivered where I read

The report arrives by email or chat on a schedule instead of sitting in a folder waiting to be opened.

Fair, not flattering

A comparison that understates a rival is a comparison I will act on wrongly. The point is accuracy, not reassurance.

FAQ

Questions about AI and search

Can AI write content that ranks?

AI drafts quickly and consistently. What ranks is content answering a real question better than the pages already there, which needs someone who knows the subject to supply specifics and cut padding. AI does structure, research summary and first draft; a person supplies the facts, the opinions and the edit.

How do you get content into AI Overviews?

Nobody can guarantee inclusion and any promise of it is worth ignoring. I make pages easy to extract from: answer in the first two sentences under a heading matching how the question is asked, specific and attributable facts, FAQPage and LocalBusiness data matching the visible text, and no burying the answer. A method for being quotable, not a guarantee of being quoted.

What is schema markup automation?

Generating a page's JSON-LD from its own content rather than hand-writing it or pasting a generic block. Done properly it produces Organization, WebPage, FAQPage, Product, Article or LocalBusiness data matching what visitors see. Done badly it describes things that are not on the page, which is a guideline breach.

Does AI-generated content get penalised?

Google's stated position is that it rewards helpful content however it was produced, and acts against content made at scale to manipulate rankings. The distinction is whether the page helps somebody. Thin, repetitive, unedited output is the problem rather than the drafting tool.

How do you run competitor analysis with AI?

On a schedule rather than as a one-off. Agents check competitor pages, positioning, offers and published pricing at a set interval and report the differences, so a change is something I am told about. The value is the repetition.

The tool behind all of this

This is easy.one on the Solo plan, which I pay for myself. It is worth reading the honest review before the price, including the parts I find frustrating, because all sales are final and there is no trial.
